FASTER ACCESS: Ledang district residents will have an alternative route to the North-South Expressway, instead of through Tangkak

LEDANG: THE Bukit Gambir toll plaza will be operational from January next year. This is the second toll plaza connecting the Ledang district to the North-South Expressway. The first is in Tangkak.

Gambir assemblyman M. Asojan said the construction of the RM80 million project commenced on May 21 last year and is scheduled for completion on Nov 17 this year.

He said the toll plaza will provide convenience for people living in Kundang Ulu, Gresik, Sengkang, Bukit Gambir, Serom, Sungai Mati, Parit Pulai, Simpang Lima and Parit Zing who, at present, have to drive to the nearest toll plaza in Tangkak.

“The Bukit Gambir toll plaza is only several minutes away from the Bukit Gambir town.”

Asojan said the toll plaza was expected to be a catalyst to economic activities.

“Residents of Parit Zing, Parit Pulai and Simpang Lima may set up convenience stores, restaurants and retail outlets near the toll plaza. This will generate income for them, as well as to provide convenience for travellers.”

Former menteri besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman had announced the project in 2009 but the construction was delayed because of geological and technical factors.

Meanwhile, trader Lim Boon Chuan said he was hoping for the project to be ready by the end of last year.

“Instead, the project stalled,” he said, adding that the residents are hoping for it to be completed soon.

Taxi driver Ng Tong Meng said the toll plaza was only five kilometres away from Bukit Gambir.

“It will allow us to get to the highway faster and help ease congestion at the Tangkak toll plaza during major festivals,” he said.

Project delay is a norm under BN government.

For God sake, all Malaysians must bear for inefficient and corrupt government for another five years.
