MUAR: MUAR Municipal Council is considering building a multistorey car park to address the shortage of car park facilities in the town.

Council president Zulkiflee Abbas said besides the shortage of parking facilities, more cars are also entering Muar, especially during the weekends.

Motorists here claim the new commercial areas along Jalan Sisi here have also contributed to the congestion with the traffic spilling over to Jalan Abdullah and Jalan Maharani.

Motorist Hasrizat Abu Bakar blamed the jams on the indiscriminate parking along the road shoulders in town.

“The town’s roads are mainly two lanes and when cars are parked on the road shoulder, it will result in a bottleneck,” said the 23-year-old.

“Adding more public car parks will alleviate the situation.”

Azira Hasan, 27, who is from Tanjung Agas, claims that the lack of parking facilities is the main reason why motorists park indiscriminately.

“The situation is bad in Jalan Abdullah. The road is congested on weekdays motorists leave their cars along the road shoulders to go to the banks.”

Zulkiflee urged road users to be patient while the council finds a solution to the problem.
